Battery Wiring

Done with XT connector

The batteries need XT connectors soldered to the ends.

Battery Connector Assembly

Requirements

  • Soldering Iron
  • Solder
  • Wire Strippers
  • Soldering Helping Hands
  • 2x Battery
  • 2x XT connectors (male and female, with covers)
  • 16 guage wire

Soldering the XT Connector to Batteries

Use a female/socket XT connector for the batteries.

The female connectors have hollow terminals.
See figure under Connecting Batteries to PCB to see the male connector. Use the opposite for the battery terminals.

  1. Slide the XT connector rear cover over the two ends of the free wires. XT Connector Cover

  2. Strip about 1/2" (12mm) from the end of the positive wire. Fold over the exposed tip a few times to create a ball. The ball should fit snug in the solder cup of the XT connector. Strip Wire

  3. Fit the end of the wire in the positive XT female connector solder cup. There are small polarity markings on the XT connector. It may be helpful to use a soldering helping hands jig to hold the wire and connector in place.

  4. Fill the soldering cup with solder. Make sure not to overheat the connector. If the connector starts to melt, use a new connector and try again after stripping more insulation from the wire. It helps to use a very hot soldering tip for this step. Solder the positive wire in place

  5. Repeat steps 2-4 with the negative wire.
Solder the negative wire in place

  6. Slide the rear cover into place. It will snap into place.

Creating PCB Battery Connectors

Use a male/plug XT connector for the batteries. The male connectors have plug terminals.

Batteries installed

  1. Using the same procedure as Soldering the XT Connectors on the batteries, solder two ~100mm wires to a male XT connector.
